A tale of triumph and ambition. This is the story of James Busby, the father of Australian wine.
In 1824, James Busby set sail for Australia, carrying vine cuttings for the new colony.
Intent on establishing viticulture in Australia, he obsessed over the vines and their survival; the fruit of his obsession is still found growing in vineyards across Australia to this day.
James Busby is born in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Having studied viticulture in France, Busby emigrates to Australia with his family. With him, he brings vine cuttings that are planted in The Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney.
